3D image at the Rheinlandpfalz-Tag
A few months ago, I received a request from the Protestant church to paint a 3D picture on the theme of “Building Bridges” at the Rheinlandpfalz-Tag in Bad Ems.
After a meeting and a very nice conversation, it was clear that I would do it.
Build bridges
We’ve all been there. If you express your opinion, have an idea that deviates from the norm, or think in a differentiated way about a topic – be it immigration law or gender equality, for example – it can happen that you are attacked in the most violent way. Many are therefore already holding back on corresponding topics. In social media, unfortunately, this is the norm. There is less and less tolerance and respect for another opinion. Like or Dislike, thumbs up or down. A balanced pendulum between these extreme positions hardly seems to exist anymore.
You don’t have to think long to understand that such behavior is divisive. Are you for it or against it? A neither nor is not heard. Letting my counterpart finish and also being able to let his opinion stand can be very exhausting and sometimes really hurt. You can’t post such an experience well then either. Clear viewpoints that model a profile are more in demand on the web. Many then also like to ride along on the hip wave, because that’s convenient and doesn’t scare away my followers. A wave like this can quickly become a tsunami that sweeps everyone away. Many experience this when it comes to gendering. Probably the most extreme form of such a wave is fascism.
The 3D image
“Building bridges” is the theme. I think it would be great if more people would dare to approach others again – no matter how unpleasant it may be. The first step can be scary, like standing in front of an abyss. That’s why I let the rocky gorge, the abyss end in boiling lava. However, there are small waterfalls from both sides, which at least cool down the lava a bit. Later, a “Leonardo Bridge” made of wooden beams is built over the 3D painting.
I like to play with metaphors in my paintings. Unfortunately, this is not so fashionable in so-called modern painting. At the same time, I find this form of painting very exciting. Pop songs and rap music are full of metaphors.
The 3D image will be ready on Thursday the 15.09 and will be on display at the Rheinlandpfalz-Tag from Friday the 16.09 to Sunday on the Gartenstraße in Bad Ems.
